MaxDiff Analysis
MaxDiff Analysis
The MaxDiff analysis question, also known as the Maximum Difference Scaling or Maximum Difference Method, is used to evaluate the relative preferences or importance among a set of options (e.g., products, features, concepts, etc.). It aims to help determine respondents' priorities for a set of options. The MaxDiff question requires respondents to select the "most preferred" and "least preferred" options from the given choices, avoiding neutral responses and forcing respondents to make clear decisions. Typically, a set of options (usually 4-6) is presented, and respondents need to compare and choose among them. By repeatedly displaying different combinations of options, each option is thoroughly compared, ultimately quantifying the relative importance or preference level of each option.

When using it, all options for comparison need to be created. When respondents are answering the questionnaire, the system will randomly select options from all available options for comparison and present them in the form of task cards, with each task card containing several options. Respondents are then asked about their attitudes towards these options, and this process is repeated multiple times until the required sample size for data analysis is reached.
After creating all options for comparison, the system will automatically recommend the number of options to be presented each time and the total number of task cards. These two values can be modified, but due to algorithmic requirements, there are limitations on the range of modifications to ensure correct MaxDiff data analysis results. At the same time, the system will automatically calculate the minimum required sample size based on the settings, which cannot be modified.
Respondents are given multiple sets of options and are asked to select two options as the answers to the question. After answering all sets, they can proceed to the next question.
MaxDiff Settings
- Number of Options Presented Each Time: The number of options presented in each set.
- Task Card Count: The total number of task cards to be presented.
- Minimum Required Sample Size: Automatically calculated by the system based on the number of options per presentation and the number of task cards.
- Positive Description: Positive and favorable descriptive text.
- Negative Description: Negative and unfavorable descriptive text.
Maxdiff Chart
The system will automatically generate charts based on the Maxdiff question type.
